    Roleplaying Guidelines Empty Roleplaying Guidelines

Post by Klokhead Fri Oct 22, 2010 4:22 pm

Welcome to the Roleplaying section. Before you rush off to create an RP or join one, we kindly ask that you check out these rules. This thread tells you everything you need to know in a very basic, blunt fashion, with no bull.

The following rules are some words of wisdom to help keep things running smoothly. I will do my best to address as many things as I think people can wonder about. If you have a question, please check first to make sure it isn't listed in any of the rules coming up. If your question still hasn't been answered after reading, feel free to send me a PM and I will give you an answer as quickly as possible.

    ROLE PLAYING RULES

The following is a list of rules related to common issues I have found throughout my roleplaying experience. Please read them carefully, as I am not one to give warnings and extra chances, and I will probably exile you for repeated offenses. So my thanks in advance for going through this list and taking note to adhere to these few points.

Green Bullet NO GODMODDING. No one can dodge every hit, everyone has SOME kind of weakness, all abilities and powers have some opposite force to undermine them, and there is no character powerful enough to blow up the entire world. Play sensibly. Even fantasy has its limits.

Green Bullet You are not allowed to kill other people's characters WITHOUT THEIR PERMISSION. If you’re going to do it, it would be wise to take care in planning it out with the other member so the post looks somewhat organized rather than a total godmodding murder spree. The exceptions to this rule are NPCs, BUT ONLY if they are your own… or others if you have gained permission from the member who created the NPC.

Green Bullet Try to stay within character. Playing "OOC" can be very common. This is where, for some reason or another, your character starts to go out of character (abbreviated ‘OOC’). The character then tends to stray away from his rightful personality and whatnot nonsense. It's not utterly crucial; just try to keep your character true to his self. For example, if you hate violence of any kind, please do not create a neurotic megalomaniacal badass who wants to ass-rape the mayor of Dipshitland. I can guarantee you will go out of character, get yourself killed, or have my ultimate hand of smite upon you within your first two posts.

Green Bullet I expect proper grammar and spelling. I WILL NOT allow any posts that include the use of asterisks (if you don't know what those are, you already don't belong here. Leave now.) Actions go in sentences, dialogue goes in quotations, thoughts go in italics (or quotations with an "h/she thought" or the like afterward), etc. Proofread your post after you have written it. It's not too hard to give a once over and fix minor spelling and punctuation errors, or to close a quotation. Use your common sense if you own any; if you're too lazy to use a spellcheck on a decent word processor (NOT Notepad, you fucktard), then you do not deserve my time and effort to teach you, and need to go back to school. I will not beta any posts, so please do not ask me. If you post something that looks like shit, I will tell you to fix it.

    GENERAL POSTING RULES

These are just some pointers that many people seem to overlook, and a few exclusive rules that are to my taste in forum goingson. If you see a repeat rule - deal.

Green Bullet Spoiler tags are your friend! Do not post any OOC discussion directly into the RP. Not even one sentence. If you have a quick question, please enclose it in spoiler tags, or keep it to PMs or some other form of communication. PLEASE do not post those goddamned parenthesis-enclosed snippets at the top or bottom of your post. It looks like a n00bfest on my computer.

Green Bullet I would greatly appreciate it if you do not color your text in a storyline post. It annoys me, and is just plain unprofessional and unnecessary.

Green Bullet No double-posting. I would really hope that this is a given, but you never know. I don't care how anxious, impatient, or excited you are for the story to keep moving in whatever magical adventure land to candy mountain and missing kidneys you're on. Do not post unless someone else has after you.

Green Bullet No one-line posts! Also a common knowledge rule. You are a writer. You are here to tell stories and experience the colorful flavour the other members have to offer. Act like it. If you don't have a lot to do or say, wait for a better opportunity. Don't post just for the sake of posting.

Other rules that belong in no category whatsoever.

Green Bullet Please do not complain about any profanity (swearing) you find in these forums. If you don't like it, leave.

Green Bullet On that same note, it would be lovely if you choose not to use profanity in bad taste or excess. The amount in my rulebook here is for emphasis only. Things like a character's personality and such don't apply to this rule, but if you're swearing just because you feel like it, get out.

Green Bullet Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. It's a childhood rule all of us should remember our parents teaching us, and it's still easy and here today. Please be courteous to the people around you. I would like to avoid conflict as best I can, but when I'm not around I am counting on all of you to get along and be happy in this place. If you're really having some serious problems, please let me know! I am not a monster; I would love to hear about what's going on and do my best to help out.

Also, please remember that these rules are subject to change at any time. I will more than likely make an announcement when this occurs, but if I forget or something like that, please don't hold me to blame. Please enjoy the forums. Now, go create the story of your dreams!!

    Thanks for reading,

    -Klok
